“When two people meet and fall in love, there's a sudden rush of magic. Magic is just naturally present then. We tend to feed on that gratuitous magic without striving to make any more. One day we wake up and find that the magic is gone. We hustle to get it back, but by then it's usually too late, we've used it up. What we have to do is work like hell at making additional magic right from the start. It's hard work, but if we can remember to do it, we greatly improve our chances of making love stay.”
― Tom Robbins, Still Life with Woodpecker
Valentines is open season for Cupid. Maybe you have been married for years…maybe you have a secret crush on someone or maybe you are searching for love…Valentines brings out our best intentions for those we adore. Cupid's arrows flying all around as the day nears, planning, buying and plotting how we want to express our love towards each other. Valentines can be for re-igniting a flame or creating a new one or stoking the fire that is already there…Valentines is a day to really go all out and experience that rush of magic for the first time or all over again!
At Bodega Bellaire, we are an outpost for finding the key to a magic Valentines Day!! A few of the more conventional items we carry for a great Valentines Day:
Wine- According to a 2009 study in Italy “The finding that regular moderate intake of red wine is associated with higher FSFI scores for both sexual desire, lubrication, and overall sexual function as compared to the teetotaller status is intriguing…it suggests a potential relationship between red wine consumption and better sexuality.” It seems that white and rosé wines did not have the same effect…and of course moderation is key here with the red wine. Check this link for more info: Regular moderate intake of red wine is linked to a better women's sexual health
Chocolate-The Aztecs may have been the first on record to draw a link between the cocoa bean and sexual desire: the emperor Montezuma was said to consume the bean in copious amounts to fuel his romantic trysts.
Nowadays, scientists ascribe the aphrodisiac qualities of chocolate, if any, to two chemicals it contains. One, tryptophan, is a building block of serotonin, a brain chemical involved in sexual arousal. The other, phenylethylamine, a stimulant related to amphetamine, is released in the brain when people fall in love.
Flowers (Roses)- From the Western culture, it has been believed that the Rose was created by the goddess of love, Aphrodite. According to the legend, her tears and her lover, Adonis’, blood watered the ground from where the red Roses grew. It was then a symbol of love until death. Whoa, that kinda makes cupid look silly!
Candles- Candlelight is not as bright as your typical room lighting; and your body responds to it differently! Low lighting tells your body to relax. It is like replicating lighting at night when your body is ready to wind down for bed. Your body relaxes and it can also help reduce stress levels, making a romantic night in more comfortable and enjoyable.
Candlelight also creates an intimate space. Since its light reaches a relatively small area, it helps create an environment where a couple can truly focus on one another. You are less likely to get distracted by your surroundings when basking in each other’s presence by candlelight. Candles don’t give off much heat, but they still create a sense of warmth. The simple flames can induce feelings of warmth and emotional intimacy. Also, reduced lighting can cause your pupils to dilate. When pupils dilate, it is often due to excitement or attraction, and many people find these bedroom eyes to be attractive; setting the mood for love.
And some not so conventional items....
Free Rain Enhanced Sparkling Water - With MACA and Grapefruit “Maca is an herb that works right away,” says Free Rain founder Robinett. “It’s considered highly nutritious, invigorating, hormone-balancing and has long been used as an aphrodisiac. It can help to increase testosterone in some cases, and to normalize our endocrine system, which is a sort of master-regulator for all of the body’s hormones including sex hormones, stress hormones and sleep hormones. There’s no central nervous system stimulation like you get from coffee, so it’s more of a calm, feel-good energy. The best word for the sensation really is arousal.”
Sabadi Slow Living Sesso Chocolate - with MACA, Damiana Extract and Cola Nut
Damiana, also known as Turnera diffusa, is a low-growing plant with yellow flowers and fragrant leaves. It’s native to the subtropical climates of southern Texas, Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. Damiana’s use as an herbal remedy predates written history. By the time the Spanish crossed the Atlantic, indigenous cultures had been using it for centuries as an aphrodisiac among other things.
In its Native Africa, Cola Nut has long been used as a mood enhancer and sexual stimulant. It contains three active compounds which stimulate the nervous system: caffeine, theobromine and kolanin, and it is this powerful combination thought to be responsible for the aphrodisiac effects of this herb.
Phasey Sex Chocolate - Shatavari
Shatavari is a female aphrodisiac that can be used to improve female libido. It has been used for thousands of years as a general female tonic and for balancing the hormones.
